Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. --- Theodore Roosevelt

The battleground states: Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Michigan and West Virginia (tossup); Maine, Minnesota and Washington (Kerry leaning, a combined 25 electoral votes); North Carolina, Colorado, Louisiana, Arizona, Virginia, Arkansas and Missouri (Bush leaning, a combined 73 electoral votes). Because of population changes, if Bush just wins the states he did in 2000, he will have 278 (instead of 271 in 2000), 8 more than the 270 needed. If Kerry wins the states Gore did in 2000, he is 10 short of 270.
