I have never worked as a waiter, even during highschool summers or during college so I don't know how frustrating it is personally although I had friends who did and heard complains. I find there are actually sites dedicating to this subjects: stainedapron.com and bitterwaitress.com. Honestly, I try to tip roughly 15%, but usually round to the nearest whole dollar, so it could be 14% or 16%. Even when service was bad, it's still 10%, never below.
