Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. --- Theodore Roosevelt

Here is a great website Reliable Texas Power, which will answer questions you have regarding the new 11 coal-fired power plants that TXU proposed to build over the next few years. A total of 17 permit applications for coal burning power plants are pending before the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The Texas chapter of the Republicans for Environmental Protection, along with many other groups, among them the Texas Cities for Clean Air Coalition led by comrade mayor Bill White of Houston, liberal Dallas mayor Laura Miller, oppose the fast track granting of permits to build these power plants. The Coalition includes the following cities: Arlington, Cedar Hill, Coppell, DeSoto, Duncanville, El Paso, Fort Worth, Frisco, Hillsboro, Irving, Lancaster, McKinney, Plano, Rockwall and Wylie. They wanted the commercially untested coal gasification plants, which consumes more energy. Without these permits, and therefore the new power plants, the alternative is for TXU to turn back on those old power plants that are many times more polluting. Maybe they like that better. Or we can start getting blackouts, now that's a real nice choice.
